In October, demolition of Taylor Kennedy High School continued as the interior and some exterior walls began being torn down. This follows asbestos abatement and other precautionary steps that were taken prior to the beginning of hard demolition.

“The start of the demolition of Kennedy High School is one of the more exciting steps our district has taken in terms of the 2021 Bond Program,” says Interim Superintendent Michael Wegher. “One thing I’ve heard since I began in my current role is that community members want to see progress happening with their bond dollars, and this provides them that opportunity.”

As demolition progresses, community members can expect to see more of the building come down while crews work tirelessly to prep the site for construction of the new Taylor High School.

“Once demolition is complete and we start to see construction of the new high school, it’s going to be a very exciting thing for members of the Taylor community.” says Interim Supt. Wegher. “Taylor has waited a long time for this, and with the community's support in 2021, it’s now time to take the next step for our students, staff and community.”

Leading up to this phase, Plante Moran Cresa has worked closely with our district’s administration, school board and others on planning what the new Taylor High School will ultimately be.

“Giving our students an environment that is student-centered and built with them in mind will allow them to focus on learning and succeeding in school, and that’s why we’re all here,” says Interim Supt. Wegher.”
